Residency Requirement

As an undergraduate, you are required to complete a minimum of eight semesters of full-time study. Transfer Students are required to complete a minimum of four semesters, and combined degree candidates (liberal arts/engineering combined degrees, and the programs with New England Conservatory and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts) are required to complete their programs within a minimum of ten semesters of full-time study.

What counts as a semester of full-time study:

  1. At least three course credits at Tufts, the New England Conservatory, or the School of the Museum of Fine Arts during the fall or spring semesters
  2. At least three course credits at a Tufts or non-Tufts study abroad program
  3. A combined total of five course credits  from any of the following:

          - Tufts Summer Session
          - Tufts in Talloires
          - Test Credits (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, SAT II)
          - Transferred courses taken before you started at Tufts

Please Note: Nine of these credits may also be used to count for two semesters of study

Petitions for exceptions to the above may be made and must go through your Advising Dean.
