Subject Tutors

What is a Subject Tutor?

ARC Subject Tutors hold tutoring sessions with fellow students who need support in a particular subject area. Tutors work with students in one-on-one sessions, drop-in hours, study groups, conservation groups and workshops. We offer two different types of positions, with increasing levels of time commitments, training and student interaction.

What We Look For In an Applicant

If you are a Tufts undergraduate who has done extremely well in the courses you would like to tutor, and have superior interpersonal skills, you are an ideal candidate.

We look for tutors who can build rapport and establish trust with their students, who can convey complex conceptual material effectively and articulately. Great tutors have the qualities of a leader: a personable and approachable demeanor, the ability to collaborate effectively with others, a positive attitude, a willingness to help their peers, and integrity. Previous teaching or tutoring experience is helpful, but not required.

You must have completed the classes you want to tutor in order to apply. We make exceptions if you have placed into higher math or foreign language levels and successfully completed those classes at Tufts.

The subject tutoring program does not hire writing, English, humanities, or non-statistical social science tutors.
