International and Multilingual Students
Note: All ARC resources are free for Tufts A&S, GSAS, SOE, and SMFA students!
English Language Support
The ARC offers individual appointments and group workshops to support multilingual students in developing their oral communication, pronunciation, listening, reading, and grammar skills in English. To make an appointment, please go to https://calendly.com/luz-rodriguez and follow the prompts. If you have questions, please contact our Program Specialist, Luz Rodriguez. See sidebar for Workshops and Classes!
Our writing consultants are trained and prepared to help multilingual students, non-native speakers of English, and international students navigate the linguistic and cultural challenges of writing in English. We encourage you to work with the same consultant on a regular basis, so they can get to know your concerns and help you develop your academic voice.
In one-to-one meetings, we generally begin with the big picture, such as forming a strong argument, organizing your ideas, and using outside sources. We can also discuss sentence-level issues such as word choice, grammar, and diction, with a focus on clarity and meaning, and we always do our best to respond to your specific questions or concerns. While we focus on your understanding and learning, we do not proofread or copy-edit your work -- your paper is always your own. We want to help you develop your own voice and confidence about writing in English.
Time Management & Study Strategies Consulting
If you’re an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in Art & Sciences or Engineering at Tufts, you can work with one of our consultants on time management and study strategies. The cost is included in your tuition. Learn how TM&SS consulting works.
For 2016-17, we have TM&SS consultants who speak Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, French, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Kannada, Lao, Mandarin, Ndebele, Portuguese, Shona, Spanish, Swati, Tamil, Urdu, Vietnamese, Xhosa, and Zulu. Consultant schedules fill up as the semester progresses. If you want to request a consultant who speaks a specific language, request an appointment early in the semester before their schedules are full.
