Institute for International Scholars

Our Institute for International Scholars will prepare you for graduate school programs by providing focused training in writing and communication skills. Our seminar classes closely resemble the classroom experience of U.S. graduate programs. During the six-week program you will build the skills and confidence necessary for success in your graduate school experience.

Program Requirements


To apply for this program you must have:

  • A completed undergraduate degree
  • An intention to pursue further studies at a university or college
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 71 (internet), 197 (computer), or 530 (paper)

Program Costs


Application Fee - $50, collected at time of application

Tuition Deposit - $100, collected at the time of application
This deposit is deducted from the total tuition cost, but is not refundable if you choose to withdraw your application.

Shipment Fees
If you need an I-20 from Tufts for your visa application, you will need to register for a free account with University Express Mail Service to assist with international shipping. Shipping costs vary according to the country you reside in. You will receive additional instructions for UEMS from our office once you have completed your application.

Residential Students - $5,780
The all-inclusive fee includes tuition, housing in a double room, meals, airport transfers, health insurance, and many activities. Single rooms are available for an additional cost of $360.

Commuter Students - $2,730
The all-inclusive fee includes tuition, meals, and many activities.

Refund Policy

If you choose to withdraw from the program between June 15 - July 2, 2017 we offer an 80% tuition refund.

Program Curriculum


Your program will consist of two main classes and afternoon extracurricular activities and excursions. You are invited to participate in the Discover America excursions on Wednesday afternoons that explore the greater Boston area. Classes meet weekdays from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Classes have an average of 10 students and last 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Academic Speaking Course

In this class you will develop and refine your language skills for teamwork, discussions, debates, and other verbal interactions. We tailor grammar and pronunciation instruction to meet your skill level.

Research Writing Course

In this class you will learn to construct a graduate-level research paper. You will meet with your writing instructor to receive individual feedback and learn to strengthen your listening, note-taking, writing, and seminar presentation skills.

Tutoring

Should you need it, our program staff can arrange evening tutoring sessions to complement our intensive academic program.
