Change Your Preferred First Name

If you use a first name that differs from your legal name, you have the ability to update it in the WhitePages directory through the Registrar's Office. Use the form below to submit your preferred first name, allowing 48 business hours for your request to be processed.

In addition to updating your preferred first name in the WhitePages directory, you have the ability to obtain a Student ID card with your preferred (common) name: 1) update your preferred name in SIS by clicking the pencil icon next to your name in the About Me tab; 2) if you are replacing an old Student ID card, you also need to contact Public Safety with your request for an updated Student ID card. (Incoming students requesting their first Tufts ID card do not need to contact Public Safety, but will have their preferred name appear on their ID card automatically.) Please note: preferred names can only be printed on Student ID cards if they contain alpha characters onlyUpdating your preferred name in SIS will also update your name on class and grade rosters.

You also have the ability to update your name for other general communications at Tufts, including your email alias/address: visit the University's Preferred Name Change webpage for more information.
