Obtain a Student ID card with your Preferred (Common) Name
You now have the ability to obtain a Student ID card with your preferred (common) name!
- Update your preferred name in SIS by clicking the pencil icon next to your name in the About Me tab. (Please note: preferred names can only be printed on Student ID cards if they contain alpha characters only.) Updating your preferred name in SIS will also update your name on class and grade rosters.
- If you are replacing an old Student ID card, contact Public Safety about your request for an updated Student ID card. (Incoming students requesting their first Tufts ID card do not need to contact Public Safety, but will have their preferred name appear on their ID card automatically.)
There are a limited number of replacement IDs available at no charge for current students, and incoming students will never be charged for this service! Learn more about updating your name on your Student ID card.
As a reminder, you can also have your name updated for general communications at Tufts. (Your diploma records will remain as your legal name and, as of now, your Tufts User Name will not change).
- Contact the Registrar to update your name in the Tufts Directory.
- Submit a request to it@tufts.edu to update your email alias and address, and any other Tufts services you may use.
- Contact Mary Daley or Susan Keathing in Health Services to have your preferred name updated in Medicat.
- Update your name information in Tufts Alert emergency notification system
- Update your name information in WebEx conferencing tool.
