What do you enjoy most about your internship?

I really like the people I work with. Everyone is welcoming and fun to be around. They’re also very knowledgeable and always willing to help. They encourage me to try new things and learn as much as I can.

What do you find challenging?

Anyone who does research knows it can be frustrating sometimes -- your experiments usually don’t work out like you want them to. You have to learn to see failures as learning experiences and trust the process! Also, it’s always a good idea to ask other people for help if you’re feeling stuck. They might be an expert on the topic or piece of equipment you’re having trouble with.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?

Ask A LOT of questions. You’re working with people who have been in their field for years, and there’s so much you can learn from them! If someone is explaining something to you, and you don’t entirely understand why or how something works, just ask! They know that students have very little experience, and they don’t expect you to know everything.
