What do you do as an intern at this organization?
At Bullhorn I mainly provide support for the account renewals team by sending out surveys to clients, entering account data, and building revenue reports for the financial upstream. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to perform sweeping, data-driven analyses across Bullhorn's accounts, including price-sensitivity (to increases), and regional propensities for change in account usage. This department in Bullhorn is ripe for automation, so I've had the opportunity to work on my programming skills, too, writing code to simplify many of my routine tasks.
How did you find this internship?
A Tufts job board (other than Handshake).
What do you enjoy most about your internship?
The culture at Bullhorn. Bullhorn is relaxed, yet has a clear hierarchy, which leads to efficiency. People are happy with their work, and tend to eat together at any of the table clusters around the office during lunch. There's free coffee, fruit, snacks, and a weekly lunch. Everyone is energetic, happy, and relaxed.
What do you find challenging?
Data entry. While there are plenty of interesting things to do, some days are spent as a keyboard monkey, entering data for the team. This is the least fun, but someone has to do the grunt work, and it will always be the intern or the program the intern writes to do it for themselves.
What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
Be prepared to create work for yourself. Often, I will complete what my superiors have assigned, and nothing new will be ready for me to work on yet. Be prepared to teach yourself what you need to learn to make the most of your resources: for me, this meant teaching myself python so I could automate my work. I applied for this position in April, though application deadlines vary.
