What do you do as an intern at this organization?

I work in conjunction with Google and my host organization which is the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. I have been writing blog posts for the organization, have been working on a policy brief all summer, provided research and data analysis support, attended Capitol Hill briefings and other events, and attended all the fellowship programming at Google.

How did you find this internship?

Ironically, I just googled it.

What do you enjoy most about your internship?

I love the hands-on experience I have had working in public policy. It has been lots of hard work, but very eye-opening and I have discovered just how much I truly love public policy.

What do you find challenging?

Writing and editing is definitely challenging especially because working with technology policy is challenging since it changes so much every single day. Also, making sure I read all the research that's out there on a particular issue is challenging since you never know if you truly found everything that's out there.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?

Go for it and don't be intimidated if you think you don't meet all the qualifications. Personally, I did not have technology policy experience, but I had a great curiosity for it and a willingness to learn so expressing that in my application was helpful. Take your time applying and make sure you get to know the host organizations and pick your best match.
