What do you do as an intern at this organization?
I wrote emails, organized contacts, made packages, and worked with marketing to encourage alumni involvement. It involved a lot of Excel documents, research, and repetitive tasks.
How did you find this internship?
Through idealist.org
What do you enjoy most about your internship?
The group of interns working there are awesome. I made a lot of friends and really enjoyed going into the office.
What do you find challenging?
I felt like my position was designed by the supervisors for tasks that they didn't want to do/have time for. For example, I would be asked to make a Word doc with research on healthcare, or create an Excel sheet with all of our volunteers from NY, etc. There weren’t enough tasks for my position alone.
What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
I would definitely recommend the organization, United Planet. Apply for a coordinator position and make sure you talk about your travel experience and love for other cultures.
