Off-Campus Work Study
Tufts has a small off-campus work study program for students to work at local non-profit organizations using federal work study funds. These positions must be approved in advance, and the student’s work must be directly benefitting and serving our local communities in Medford, Somerville, Boston, or Grafton. The organization is responsible for an upfront payment of 25% of the student’s projected wages plus 7.65% FICA tax. Any unused funds are returned to the organization at the end of the fiscal year. Supervisors can express interest by emailing Student Employment a job description or by setting up a Handshake account and posting the position for approval. All off-campus work study positions will be posted on Handshake by the organization (with approval from Tufts), and the organization is responsible for the hiring process. Supervisors complete weekly time sheets and send them directly to our office, and Tufts completes payroll for the student. Our staff will be in touch about all next steps when we receive an inquiry or a job posting.
Off-Campus Non-Work Study
Part-time positions through companies can be posted directly to Handshake once a company makes an account. This account will allow you to request to post at other colleges as well. We are not able to post short-term positions with individuals, positions with a stipend rather than wage, or research study opportunities.
