Astronaut Scholarship
Description: The Astronaut Scholarship is a program funded by the Mercury 7 Astronauts that recognizes significant achievement and potential in STEM research. Tufts is one of 40 select universities who nominate students for this prestigious award. Nominees are invited to apply based on the strength of their application for the Goldwater Scholarship. Scholarship nominees are those students who have shown initiative, creativity, and excellence in their chosen field. Special consideration is not given to aeronautical/astronautical engineering students or those intending to pursue careers as astronauts.

Beinecke Scholarship
Description: The program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The program has selected more than 500 college juniors from more than 100 different undergraduate institutions for support during graduate study at any accredited university. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school.

James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program
Description: The Junior Fellows Program is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs. Approximately 8 to 10 students will be hired to work at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, DC on a full-time basis for a period of one year. Junior fellows are matched with senior associates to work on a variety of international affairs issues and may conduct research for books, participate in meetings with high-level officials, or contribute to congressional testimony and organize briefings attended by scholars, journalists, and government officials.

Churchill
Description: The Churchill Scholarship provides funding to American students for a year of master’s study in science, engineering, and mathematics at the University of Cambridge, based at Churchill College. The scholarship does not look for “well-rounded” applicants, but ones with “interesting jagged-edges” and is considered the most academically challenging scholarship. Students should submit a Pre-Application Form by 5 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2020.

Fulbright
Description: The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually-designed study and research projects or for English teaching assistant programs to a variety of countries. Fulbright grants are not restricted in field of study, and students and practitioners of the creative and performing arts are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on the applicant’s academic or professional record, language preparation, and personal qualifications, as well as the feasibility of the proposed study project.

Gates-Cambridge
Description: Gates Cambridge Scholarships are highly competitive full-cost scholarships to Cambridge University, established in 2000 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The trustees award scholarships based on a candidates intellectual ability, leadership capacity, and desire to apply talent and knowledge for the benefit of others by finding solutions to problems facing the societies of the world. The program aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. Students should submit a Pre-Application Form by 5 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2020.

Goldwater
Description: The purpose of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is to alleviate a critical current and future shortage of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. The foundation will award up to 300 undergraduate scholarships to outstanding students. Students who plan to study medicine are eligible for a Goldwater Scholarship if they plan a research career rather than a career as a medical doctor in a private practice. Students applying should have a strong commitment to research and be able to articulate specific research questions to which they intend to devote their professional life.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program
Description: The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program will prepare a new generation of leaders with a deep academic foundation and the skills to develop creative solutions to effect positive change in the world. The scholarship offers three years of funding to pursue any graduate degree program at Stanford University, from a master's or doctoral degree to professional degree like a JD, MBA, or MD. Scholars also receive leadership development training and mentoring throughout the course of the program. Students should submit a Pre-Application Form by July 15, 2020.

Marshall
Description: Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an U.K. institution in any field of study. A Marshall Scholarship is tenable for one or two academic years at any British university but may be extended by the commission, though not beyond the end of a third academic year. Proposals for study at universities other than Oxford and Cambridge are particularly welcomed. Students should submit a Pre-Application Form by 5 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2020.

Mitchell
Description: The Mitchell Scholars Program is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service. Up to 12 Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. The Mitchell Scholars Program provides tuition, accommodations, a living expenses stipend, and an international travel stipend. Students should submit a Pre-Application Form by 5 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2030.

Rhodes
Description:The Rhodes Scholarship provides full financial support to pursue a degree or degrees at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. 32 Rhodes Scholars are chosen each year, not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. Schwarzman
Description: The Schwarzman Scholarship gives the world’s best and brightest students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities. Students will live and study together on the campus of Schwarzman College where all classes will be taught in English. Students will pursue degrees in one of three disciplines: public policy, economics and business, or international studies and spend a year immersed in an international community of thinkers, innovators, and senior leaders in business, politics, and society. Truman
Description: The Truman Scholarship awards college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education, or elsewhere in public service up to $30,000 for graduate school in addition to access leadership development activities and internships or employment with the federal government. Selection is based on leadership abilities and potential for influencing public policies, suitability of the nominee’s proposed program of study for a career in public service, and government involvement. Scholars are required to work in public service for three of the seven years following completion of a foundation-funded graduate program.
