CREATE Cultivate Relationships by Engaging with Arts at Tufts Experiences
The CREATE (Cultivate Relationships by Engaging with Arts at Tufts Experiences) Orientation is an interactive pre-orientation program that centers activism through the arts. Each year incoming CREATE students will immerse themselves in a critical social justice issue through various art mediums and institutions throughout the Boston area. By the end of the four-day program we hope that students will leave with a sense of belonging, community, and inspiration to incorporate the arts and tackle social justice issues during their time at Tufts. We encourage incoming students of all art levels and experience to join.
2024 Student Coordinators
Elena Jin, 2028
Elena is a rising sophomore in the combined degree program from Toronto, Canada. She is majoring in computer science at Tufts and is experimenting with metals, and ceramics at the SMFA. On campus, she is involved with the SMFA Student Government Association, competes with the Tufts Taekwondo team and is an occasional latte artist. Outside of class, she can always be found taking numerous pictures around random walks in the city. She is so excited to welcome you all to Tufts through CREATE!
Mariana Porras, 2027
Mariana is from Caracas, Venezuela, but has lived in Glen Rock, New Jersey, for five years. She is a combined degree student with the SMFA, majoring in Fine Arts and Cognitive and Brain Sciences. Some of her activities on campus include collaborating with the Observer magazine, SOMOS magazine. Mariana will be coordinating CREATE this year and would love to make everyone passionate about art while they make meaningful connections!

A Typical Day of CREATE
What we might do on any given day based on past years’ programs.

| 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. | Breakfast in Medford, Boston, or Brookline |
| 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Off-Campus Experience – museums, galleries, open markets, and more |
| 12 - 1 p.m. | Lunch with leaders |
| 1 - 5 p.m. | Art making – a different process every day |
| 5 - 6 p.m. | Dinner in the dining hall with leaders |
| 7 – 9:30 p.m. | Evening activities – everything ranging from Laser Tag to a gallery opening |
