Each year, Tufts University hosts a celebration honoring the life and work of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's symposium will open with a performance by the Tufts Black Theater Troupe. Dr. Kerri Greenidge, Co-Director of the Tufts African American Freedom Trail Project, will then place our current moment in historical context. Next, a conversation with Boston-based community organizers and activists will discuss how this contemporary moment is shaping their work at the local and national levels. Panelists include Chris Cato of YouthBuild USA, Cheryl Clyburn Crawford of MassVOTE, and recently-elected Boston City Councilor, Lydia Edwards. We will then conclude with a community dinner and keynote lecture from Tufts alumnus Emery Wright, A99. Wright is the Co-Director of Project South (, and he will address the importance of action in, “the fierce urgency of now.”

Apply for a 2018-2019 Environmental Research Fellowship

The 2018-2019 Environmental Research Fellowship program, of the Tufts Institute of the Environment (TIE), is for Tufts graduate students to conduct independent, interdisciplinary, environmental research projects. Topics may cover areas such as conservation, public policy, biology, the food water and energy nexus, and public and environmental health, among others. All projects must include an interdisciplinary component and faculty mentors from at least two different schools or departments from within Tufts. Selected students can receive up to $5,000 in research funding.

  • Applications are due on Thursday, February 15 at 12 p.m.
  • Masters and PhD students in any Tufts departments or schools are eligible to apply.
  • Sign Up for an Information Session on Friday, February 2 or Tuesday, February 6 from 12 - 12:30 p.m.
