Welcome to Tufts Health Professions Advising! We are excited to work with our current Tufts students and Alumni in exploring, applying and preparing for a career in the health professions.

Mission Statement

The Health Professions Advising Office works to support and encourage students as they explore the health professions and prepare competitive applications to apply to graduate professional school. We work holistically with students to assist with self-assessment and research into healthcare professions; foster self-directed learning; encourage both curricular and extracurricular growth and development; and stress the importance of integrity, responsibility, and professionalism. We offer information, advice, and support to help students plan their curriculum and find health-related experiences.

Health Professions Advising Canvas Courses

Our Canvas courses, both the HPA course (general course) and the HPRC course (specific to students in their application year), are designed to provide students with the information they need to make choices in their academic and experiential preparation for careers in the health professions. We expect these courses, along with our website, to be a student's first stop for information on coursework, preparing for the professional school application process, enhancing their candidacy to health professions schools and more!

Health-E-News

Our weekly newsletter, Health-E News, is a great way to stay up to date on our advising and programming! We also feature job, volunteer, and internship opportunities in our community and beyond. We strongly recommend all students sign up, even if they are still exploring whether a health profession is right for them. Health-E-News is sent out every Friday during the academic year.

Group Advising

Throughout the year, we provide topic-specific advising sessions that are open to all students and alumni, regardless of where they may be on their Pre-Health journey.

The schedule for all group advising sessions will be published in the Canvas calendar, Health-E News, as well as on the homepage of our website. Be sure to register in advance!

Please note: These group advising sessions are recorded and by registering for these sessions students are consenting to being recorded. For students who are unable to attend, recordings of most sessions will be posted to our Health Professions Advising Canvas Course.

Individual Appointments

Pre-Health advisors meet with freshmen (beginning in their spring semester), sophomores, juniors, seniors, and alumni for one-on-one advising appointments. Appointments are posted every other Monday with availability for the following two weeks. It is expected that students will have reviewed our Canvas course prior to their appointment and come prepared with specific questions. Students should also be signed up for Health-E News. Appointment links can be found below.

Susana Carranza, Associate Director of Health Professions Advising

Susana Carranza (she, her, hers) joined the Health Professions Advising Team in fall 2020. With 15 years of admission experience, Susana has worked with students at various stages of their career. Starting at a college access program in San Francisco, she advised high school students through the college admission process. As a master’s student in Higher Education at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked with Penn Law’s Admission Office.  She moved on to work with students pursuing their masters’ and teaching credential from the Stanford Teacher Education Program.
