Academic Mentors

Avis Carrero

Avis Carrero

Avis is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and serves as an academic mentor at the StAAR Center—and will be available throughout the semester to guide students through their various academic challenges. Avis is passionate about social equity and racial justice across engineering, and his research work is centered on this unexplored intersection.

Stephanie Engel

Stephanie Engel

Stephanie is a doctoral candidate in Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies. She works as an Academic Mentor for StAAR and specializes in time management and establishing sustainable work/life balances. Stephanie is happy to assist both undergraduate and graduate students at Tufts and can work one-on-one remotely. 

Nicola Fry

Nicola Fry

Nicola (She/Her/Hers) is a first year in the MALD program at the Fletcher School. She received her BA in Sociology & Asian studies from Pitzer College in Claremont, California during which time she was a varsity athlete on the soccer and lacrosse teams. After graduating she spent two years in Kaohsiung, Taiwan teaching English as a foreign language with the Fulbright Program. She is excited to continue to mentor, coach and build strong connections with students at the StAAR center.

Christine (she/her/hers) is a doctorate student in the occupational therapy department and serves as an Academic Mentor at the StAAR Center. She loves working with students and looks forward to supporting them in their academic goals!

Geetika Mukkamala

Geetika Mukkamala

Geetika is a first-year doctoral student with the Tufts Department of Occupational Therapy and serves as an Academic Mentor at the StAAR Center. She is available to help students hone their academic skills like planning ahead or finding organizational systems. Geetika particularly loves problem-solving with students when they find themselves feeling demotivated or dealing with a challenging situation.

Liz is a master’s student at the Fletcher School and serves as an Academic Mentor at the StAAR Center. She is pleased to help students develop their academic abilities this year. Liz especially loves working with students on academic planning and their work-life balance.

Hailey Pister

Hailey Pister

Hailey is a second-year doctoral student in the occupational therapy department and serves as an academic mentor with the StAAR center. She is ready and available to meet with students to support them in their academic skills and achieving their unique goals! Hailey specifically loves working with students around time management and study strategies.

Anastasia Rastokina

Anastasia Rastokina

Anastasia completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst majoring in Biology and minor in French. Now she is in her 5th year of her PhD degree in Biology DNA replication. She has been a TA for several Biology classes and is an Academic Mentor at the StAAR center for the college of Natural sciences. She hosts workshops but also meets with students one for academic skills.

Cody is a second-year master's student in history. While it's his first year as an Academic Mentor in the StAAR center, he has worked with students during his undergrad years as a peer mentor and during several years as a high school teacher. 

Nadia Satvrou

Nadia Satvrou

Nadia is a Chemistry PhD Student in the Mace Lab and serves as an Academic Mentor at the StAAR Center. She is available to students this year to help them develop their academic skills. In particular, Nadia loves working with students on their study strategies for STEM courses!

Brittany Spengler

Brittany Spengler

Brittany is a second-year student in the School Psychology program and serves as an Academic Mentor at the StAAR Center. She loves working one-on-one with students to help them develop study and organizational skills and is looking forward to getting to know the Tufts community through her work.

Stefan Tschauko

Stefan Tschauko

Stefan is a PhD Candidate at The Fletcher School and a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University. He researches how branding and brand management impacts the performance of international organizations. His secret to productivity, work-life balance, and academic success may be best encapsulated by the principle he calls “BPMS”—the “Big Picture Morning Solitude"

Max Allison

Max Allison

Max is a Biology tutor in the StAAR center, tutoring students in Bio13, Bio14, and Bio46. Max studies Biology and History, works in a molecular genetics lab on campus, and fences for the Tuft's Fencing Club. He is excited to work with students to reinforce key concepts, prepare for exams, and handle their course load.

Scott is an Economics tutor for the StAAR Center. He tutors for EC 5, 11, 12, 13, and 60. Scott loves helping students with conceptual questions, exam practice, and study strategies!

Jessica Ding

Jessica Ding

Jessica is a chemistry tutor in the StAAR Center. She can help students in Chem 1, Chem 2, Chem 11, Chem 12, Chem 51, Chem 171, and Chem 172. Jessica loves to talk to students about smart study strategies and believes that no chemistry problem is too tough to solve.

Bronwyn Fulton

Bronwyn Fulton

Bronwyn (she/her) and is a senior at Tufts! At the StAAR Center, she works as a tutor for Spanish classes 1 through 22. Learning a language is super exciting, and Bronwyn looks forward to meeting you where you are on your language journey! Outside of the StAAR center, she is a Tisch Scholar and also teaches a kickboxing class with TSR Fitness.

Amrita Iyer

Amrita Iyer

Amrita is a biology tutor in the StAAR Center. She helps to tutor Bio 13/14, 46 and 152 and loves to learn new ways to solve problems. Outside of tutoring, she is also a tour guide, a member of Tufts Pulse, and an undergraduate research assistant in a molecular biology lab.

Claire Ji

Yujie (Claire) Ji is a Spanish tutor who helps students with any questions and concerns relating to Spanish 1-22. She is excited about sharing her passion in Spanish with students and working with them to tackle challenges in the language learning process.

Ben Kass-Mullet

Ben Kass-Mullet

Ben is a chemistry tutor in the StAAR center this fall. A rising senior, Ben is majoring in Chemistry and French, and has delved particularly deep into the field of organic chemistry. He will be tutoring Chem 1,2,11,12,51, and 31, and is looking forward to helping students succeed by understanding why things happen a certain way, rather than just memorizing the result. 

Carolina Lopes

Carolina Lopes

Carolina is a chemistry tutor for the StAAR center. She can help students with Chemistry 1, 2, 11, and 12. Carolina loves helping students with practice problems and sum up sheets.

Alison Manca

Alison is French Tutor with the STAAR Center. She can help any student in French levels 1-22. Alison enjoys using French music and media to improve comprehension.

Becca Miller

Becca Miller

Becca is a Computer Science tutor at the StAAR Center, where she’s working for her third year now. Specifically, she tutors for CS 11 and 15, and she loves helping tutees build strong coding habits and analytical thinking skills. She’s also always happy to chat about project tips, CS extracurriculars, or life in general.

Will Mueller

Will Mueller

Will is a senior at Tufts and a Calculus tutor at the StAAR Center. He works with students who are taking Math 32 and Math 34. He absolutely loves helping students develop plans to succeed in class and is the #1 fan for Paul's Online Math Notes as a practice guide!

Chase Thalheimer

Chase Thalheimer

Chase is an Arabic tutor in the StAAR Center. He can help any student in Arabic 1-4, whether they are struggling in class, preparing for an exam, or would like to practice speaking. Outside of the classroom, you can find Chase playing volleyball on the Residential Quad, studying on Tisch roof, or singing Arabic karaoke with his friends from class!

Elizabeth is a biology tutor in the StAAR Center. She tutors students in Bio 13, 14, 41, and 152. She is a biopsychology major on the pre-med track. She has been a StAAR tutor for the past two years and is excited to continue working with bio students this year!
