Reasons to Meet With Us

There is a huge range of reasons it might be helpful to meet with us. Students often talk to us when they are:

  • Navigating a personal life challenge
  • Managing a mental or physical health concern
  • Concerned about someone else or wonderinng how to support them
  • Worried about a friend
  • Feeling seriously overwhelmed or stressed
  • Struggling to leave their room or attend classes
  • Facing housing insecurity or are afraid to go back to their permanent residence
  • Returning from the hospital
  • Thinking about taking a break from school, but aren’t sure what their options are

If you've run into something challenging and feel like you could use some extra support, please come talk to us! If it turns out another office at Tufts is better equipped to support you, we’ll also help you connect to the right people.

Working With Student Support

Typically, we meet one-on-one with individual students to learn more about their experiences and help them decide how they want to approach the situation.

Our meetings are collaborative and our work with students is a partnership. We encourage students’ agency and autonomy by putting them in the driver’s seat as much as possible.

We also collaborate closely with both on- and off-campus faculty, staff, and partners to help students build connection and establish a network of support.

What Happens In a Meeting

You can meet with us in person in Dowling Hall or online via Zoom. During our meetings, we'll listen and ask questions to help you distill your concerns, identify solutions, and hone in on what matters to you.

We'll share our knowledge about what supports and options are available, and how you can access them. We will also share our expertise around the kinds of factors you may want to anticipate or consider in each situation, patterns and outcomes we have seen from our years of work with other students, and what next steps may be most helpful for you.

Together, we’ll create a support plan that is unique to you and your individual situation. We may meet once or many times, depending on what makes the most sense for you.
