Report Hazing
Any member of the University community, including a victim, participant, or witness, with knowledge of hazing should report the hazing to the appropriate University official.
Please note that measures are taken to prevent retaliation when hazing is reported. Moreover, the identities of people who report hazing can be kept confidential during the investigation and resolution.
To Report a Concern
State law requires someone who is present when hazing occurs to report it to law enforcement, and university policy requires hazing to be reported when you become aware of it, whether or not you were present. You can report hazing by:
- Calling the Tufts University Police Department at 617-627-3030.
- Reporting an incident to the Office of Community Standards using this online form or by contacting them directly at 617-627-1644 or CommunityStandards@tufts.edu.
- Submit a report via EthicsPoint, a third party service that allows you to stay anonymous by completing their online form or calling 1-866-384-4277.
What Happens Next
- Upon receipt of a report of hazing, the Tufts University Police Department will investigate the report and coordinate with relevant University offices, including the Office of Community Standards.
- TUPD and the other offices involved in handling hazing complaints are sensitive to the group dynamics that are involved in hazing cases. The identity of the reporter can usually be kept confidential from the other members in the organization during an investigation and the resolution process.
- All students are expected to be honest and forthright during an investigation.
- In the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering, SMFA at Tufts, and Tisch College, allegations against students or student organizations are resolved using the procedure described in the Student Code of Conduct.
- The sanction of disciplinary suspension or disciplinary expulsion will be strongly considered for students and student organization found responsible for harassment and violent hazing and for situations where respondents use deception or collude with others to obstruct a hazing investigation.
