Spring Break

Academics

Classes are held as scheduled on March 13 and 14.

Students should plan to attend all scheduled class meetings in person on these days. Faculty are advised not to grant excused absences due to student vacation plans or travel preferences. 

Housing

All students who live in the residence halls during the spring 2025 term are welcome to stay in their regular assignment on campus for all or part of spring break.  

Students who choose to leave during the break are not required to check out. If leaving for the break, please close your windows and blinds, turn down your heat, unplug electronics, and lock your door. 

Dining

Regular hours at each dining location continue through dinner service on March 13. See modified hours for March 14 below. Regular service resumes at 5 p.m. on March 23.

Jumbo Spring Break 

TCU Senate, the Dean of Students Office, Tisch College, the Career Center, and the University Chaplaincy sponsor Jumbo Spring Break, a civic engagement experience during spring break week. Jumbo Spring Break offers social connections, participation in a civic engagement project, and more.

Community Engagement Trip to the Mississippi Delta

Join Tisch College and The Friedman School of Nutrition for a week in the Mississippi Delta, where you'll learn, farm, and collect data as part of the NIH-funded Delta GREENS Food is Medicine (FIM) Project.

If you are traveling...

MBTA 

The MBTA operates its usual service throughout the break. Students can get to Logan Airport and the main rail hubs, North Station and South Station, for around $2 on the MBTA. If you return via Logan Airport, the Silver Line trip from the airport is free.

Massport Shuttle 

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) operates a shuttle from the Hynes Convention Center in Back Bay to Logan Airport for $3.  Taking the shuttle also grants you to priority access at the TSA security checkpoint.  The return trip from Logan Airport to Hynes Convention Center is free. You can get more information and tickets here. There is direct access to the Hynes Convention Center from Tufts via the MBTA.

If you are staying...

Housing 

All students who live in the residence halls during the spring 2025 term are welcome to stay in their regular assignment on campus for all or part of spring break. There is no additional cost, no permission needed, and no sign up required to stay on campus. 

Meal Support 

Students who (1) meet certain financial aid criteria, (2) have a meal plan during the spring term, and (3) will be around for spring break are eligible for spring break meal support.  Students meeting those criteria will be contacted by email and invited to sign up for meal support in early March. The deadline to apply for meal support is Monday, March 10.

Transportation 

The Davis Square shuttle will operate limited hours during most of the break. The SMFA Connected Shuttle and the SMFA Beacon Direct shuttles will not run from March 17 to March 21. See the full spring break shuttle schedule and check out shuttle routes and details

SMFA Campus

Building Hours

Spring Break hours are in effect Saturday, March 15 through Sunday, March 23.

230 Fenway is open 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Mission Hill is open 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, then card access for authorized users. Saturday and Sunday is open only via card access for authorized users.

No after-hours for either building.

Normal building hours and after-hours will resume on Monday. March 24.

SMFA Specialized Studios

The high-hazard studios (Welding, Metals, Woodshop, Digital Fabrication, Mission Hill Fabrication) will be open for authorized users Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. over Spring Break. All other studios will be open for authorized users during the building hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Please email smfastudioteam@tufts.edu with questions.

Media Stockroom

The Media Stockroom will be closed from March 15 to March 23. In advance of the break, students may check out equipment for up to two weeks. Make equipment reservations ahead of time at the Media Stockroom window or online. Please reach out to smfamediastockroom@tufts.edu with questions.

Art Store

The Art Store will be closed March 15 to March 23. We will reopen Monday, March 24 with our regular hours.

SMFA Library

The library will be closed Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16. The library will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 17 - 21. The library will be closed on Saturday, March 22 and open on Sunday, March 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
