Tom Adams 

Director of Health Promotion 

As the Director, Tom leads the Health Promotion department in building a campus culture where all students can thrive. The Health Promotion department collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to support wellbeing for student success. Tom joins Tufts from Yale, where he directed the Office of Gender & Campus Culture and the Alcohol & Other Drugs Harm Reduction Initiative. Tom has also worked as a school counselor in K-8 public schools in Massachusetts. Tom holds a B.A. in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Yale University and an M.A. in School Counseling from Boston College.

Erica Schonman, MPH, CHES 

Assistant Director of Health Promotion 

Erica (she/her) is responsible for implementing education programs, initiatives, policies, and services that support Tufts students’ mental and emotional health. She works closely with all branches of Health and Wellness, as well as many other campus partners. Her work prioritizes socio-ecological and harm reduction approaches to student health and is informed by public health best practices. 

Prior to working at Tufts, Erica worked in Health Promotion at Boston University and the University of Michigan. She has also worked for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She earned a MPH in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and a BS in Human Development from Cornell University. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Health Promotion Graduate Assistant 

Lily (she/her) is an Epidemiology and Biostatistics MPH student at Tufts University. She works closely with our undergraduate Mental Health Reps and Jumbo Connect facilitators, promoting mental wellness on campus. Additionally, she assists with health communication and data collection on campus to support health promotion initiatives. Prior to Tufts, Lily got her BS in biology at SUNY Binghamton.
