Become a Graduate Peer Tutor

About Us

The Student Accessibility and Academic Resource (StAAR) Center at Tufts is hiring Graduate Peer Tutors for the 2026-2027 academic year. We're looking for motivated students who want to make a positive impact on campus.

Who We're Looking For

  • Motivated students from any program or department on the Medford campus 
  • General subject knowledge in Computer Science, Economics, Math, or Introductory Statistics    
  • No GPA requirement 
  • Previous tutoring experience not necessary 

Qualifications

  • Master’s student or PhD candidate  
  • We are hiring subject-area generalists who either have taken several courses or confident in course content in their subject area(s). The subjects we are seeking to support include: 
    • Computer Science
    • Economics 
    • Math (Calculus, Differential Equations, and Symmetry)  
    • Introductory Statistics.  
  • Ability to build rapport, establish trust, and convey complex material effectively. 

Tutoring Opportunities and Job Responsibilities

  • Minimum 5 hours/week of tutoring  
    • One-on-one appointments and/or group drop-in support 
  • Mandatory On-boarding Training: Tuesday, May 19th, 2026  
  • Mandatory Start of Academic Year Training: Thursday, September 3rd, 2026  
  • OEO Training: 1 hour training before the start of tutoring  
  • Professional Development: 1 hour/month 
  • Preparation/Administration: 1 hour/week 
  • Additional StAAR Center Support as necessary  
  • Reports to StAAR Peer Tutoring Supervisory Team  

Salary

  • $21.00 per hour

Our tutors are trained peer leaders who assist their peers in becoming independent learners. You can expect to develop the following skills and knowledge as a Graduate Peer Tutor: 

  • Gain a deeper understanding and/or new knowledge of the area you are supporting. 
  • Gain introductory knowledge to theories of tutoring and learning. 
  • Learn and employ tutoring skills and strategies. 
  • Recognize institutional and structural barriers that impact a student’s educational experience. 
  • Develop your own tutoring approach. 
  • Develop an understanding of your learning process and how it might differ from others. 
  • Practice transferrable career skills including but not limited to time management, mentorship, and interpersonal communication.
