Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutors work with students who need introductory and intermediate-level support in the natural sciences, mathematics, economics, and foreign languages.
StAAR Center Peer Tutoring offers one-on-one and drop-in sessions for undergraduate students in the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering. Peer Tutors work with students taking introductory and intermediate courses in the natural sciences, mathematics, economics, and foreign languages. Our tutors are trained peer leaders who assist their fellow undergraduates in becoming independent learners.
Types of tutoring supported:
- One-on-One Appointments: We focus on student questions, needs, and goals around course content. Students are allowed to make one appointment per week, per course.
- Drop-In Hours: Peer tutoring drop-ins are hour-or-two-hour long sessions with tutors where students can bring questions about course content. Students are not required to sign up in advance. Drop-In Hours are specific to the course and are held on a regular schedule throughout the semester.
- Review Sessions and Workshops: Peer tutors and StAAR Center Academic Success Coaches may offer review sessions or workshops for individual courses. Topics may vary but may include content review before an exam, a study strategies workshops, or other academic skills as related to the course. These workshops and review sessions are announced on Canvas by the course instructor.
