About Us
The Student Accessibility and Academic Resource (StAAR) Center at Tufts University is hiring Subject Peer Tutors for the 2026-2027 academic year. We're looking for motivated students who want to make a positive impact on campus.
Who We're Looking For
- Motivated students from any major (or undeclared)
- No GPA requirement
- Previous tutoring experience not necessary
- Course-level subject support in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Math, Physics, and/ or Languages
- Encouraging applications from a diverse range of students, including those who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, multiracial, or POC, as well as underrepresented groups and bilingual/multilingual students.
Qualifications
- We are hiring subject-area specialists who have taken several courses in their subject area(s)
- Ability to build rapport, establish trust, and convey complex material effectively.
Tutoring Opportunities & Job Responsibilities
- Minimum 3 hours/week of tutoring
- One-on-one appointments and/or group drop-in support
- Mandatory Kick-Off Training: Friday, September 11, 2026 and Saturday, September 12, 2026
- OEO Training: 1 hour training before the start of tutoring
- Professional Development: 1 hour/month
- Preparation/Administration: 1 hour/week
- Additional StAAR Center Support as necessary
- Reports to StAAR Peer Tutoring Supervisory Team
- Opportunities for leadership and advancement beginning the second year of service
Salary
- $16.00 per hour

Our tutors are trained peer leaders who assist their fellow undergraduates in becoming independent learners. You can expect to develop the following skills and knowledge as a Subject Peer Tutor:
- Gain a deeper understanding and/or new knowledge of the area you are supporting.
- Gain introductory knowledge to theories of tutoring and learning.
- Learn and employ tutoring skills and strategies.
- Recognize institutional and structural barriers that impact a student’s educational experience.
- Develop your own tutoring approach.
- Develop an understanding of your learning process and how it might differ from others.
- Practice transferrable career skills including but not limited to time management, mentorship, and interpersonal communication.
