Postdoctoral Training Opportunities
Overview
A college campus is a unique treatment setting with many challenges and rewards. Postdoctoral positions at the Tufts University Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS) offer clinical training in brief psychotherapy, crisis intervention, community consultation, and all aspects of college mental health. Excellent supervision, competitive compensation, and a vibrant college community contribute to an outstanding experience for candidates interested in working with a broad range of young adults.
Positions are open to applicants with a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD, PsyD, EdD); all degree requirements, including the dissertation defense, must be completed before the fellowship begins.
Fellowship Responsibilities
This is a full-time, 12-month position. A work week of 35 hours (Mondays – Fridays, from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., with one hour per day allotted for lunch) is required, with the expectation that some additional time outside of these hours will be needed occasionally for outreach. The position runs from mid-August to the following mid-August. Along with legal holidays, Postdoctoral Fellows receive four weeks of vacation per year.
Staff
The CMHS is staffed by clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, and psychiatric clinicians. For further information about our staff and services, please view our staff page.
Training
Training seminars and workshops relevant to college mental health and early career development are held throughout the academic year. Fellows receive two hours of individual supervision each week from two different supervisors as well as one hour per week of group supervision.
Stipend
The salary for the 12-month fellowship is competitive and includes a full benefits package.
Application Process

The position is listed as Postdoctoral Clinician and is usually posted by mid November. In your cover letter, please tell us why we should be particularly interested in your application. We are committed to strengthening and expanding culturally competent clinical and programming services in a number of areas, including but not limited to working with communities of color, LGBTQIA issues, and first-generation issues. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
There is no application deadline, but please note that applications will be accepted and reviewed until the positions are filled, and therefore it is important to apply as soon as possible. The positions will likely be filled by late January. Letters of reference are not required unless you are offered an interview. In that case, please bring 3 letters of reference with you to the interview.
