Meet With Us

How do I set up an appointment?

Email studentsupport@tufts.edu or call 617-627-3158 to set up an appointment with a Student Support team member. If you see a particular team member that you think might be a good fit for you, feel free to email them directly.

Why would I meet with you?

There is a huge range of reasons it might be helpful to meet with us. Students often talk to us when they’re navigating a personal life challenge, managing a mental or physical health concern, concerned about someone else, or feeling seriously overwhelmed or stressed.

Maybe you've been struggling to leave your room or attend classes. Maybe you’re facing housing insecurity or are afraid to go back to your permanent residence. Maybe you were recently in the hospital. Maybe you’ve been thinking about taking a break from school, but aren’t sure what your options are or what that could look like.

You might also be worried about a friend who seems to be struggling, or looking for some guidance on how to support someone else at Tufts.

If you've run into something challenging and feel like you could use some extra support, please come talk to us! If it turns out another office at Tufts is better equipped to support you, we’ll also help you connect to the right people.

What does working with Student Support look like?

Typically, we meet one-on-one with individual students to learn more about their experiences and help them decide how they want to approach the situation.

Our meetings are collaborative and our work with students is a partnership. We encourage students’ agency and autonomy by putting them in the driver’s seat as much as possible.

We also collaborate closely with both on- and off-campus faculty, staff, and partners to help students build connection and establish a network of support.

OK, but what actually happens in a meeting?

You can meet with us in person in Dowling Hall or online via Zoom. During our meetings, we'll listen and ask questions to help you distill your concerns, identify solutions, and hone in on what matters to you.

We'll share our knowledge about what supports and options are available, and how you can access them. We will also share our expertise around the kinds of factors you may want to anticipate or consider in each situation, patterns and outcomes we have seen from our years of work with other students, and what next steps may be most helpful for you.

Together, we’ll create a support plan that is unique to you and your individual situation. We may meet once or many times, depending on what makes the most sense for you.
