While Abroad

Congratulations, you have arrived and are now settling into your life abroad. This is an exciting time, but it can also feel a bit scary, as you might be missing home and unsure of what the study-abroad experience will hold for you. The cultural adaptation process unfolds for everyone at a different pace and in different ways; it might take a little time, but you’ll soon find your groove and start to feel at home in your host community.

As the semester or year progresses, you will likely find yourself fully immersed in life in this new place, with life back home perhaps fading into the distance. This means you are taking full advantage of this opportunity and making the most of your time abroad.  You’re acquiring valuable academic, career, and life skills, and learning to see the world from a different, more nuanced perspective. While all of this is happening, you may find there are resources or support systems you might need from us at Tufts, and we have included some of those here. We have also included some tips on navigating the study-abroad experience and getting the most of out of your time abroad.

Standards of Conduct

When you participate in a Tufts Programs Abroad program, you must agree to comply with all rules, standards, and instructions relating to student behavior that are promulgated by Tufts and the host institution. It is assumed that you will conduct yourself with the same standards of academic and social responsibility that are required on the Tufts campus and be a responsible representative of your country.

The on-site directors of Tufts Programs Abroad represent Tufts University, and each student, when accepted to a program, agrees to the supervision and authority of its director. Accordingly, each student is expected to conform to the regulations of the program in which they are enrolled. The director has the authority to recommend the withdrawal of any student whose academic standing or conduct warrants dismissal.
