Jumbo Spring Break
Make new friendships, build connections, and get involved in civic engagement this March with Jumbo Spring Break!
Jumbo Spring Break 2025
We are excited to announce that JSB will be back for the second year in a row! Jumbo Spring Break takes place during the university Spring Break, from March 15 to 23. This year’s JSB is a Collegiate Challenge trip with Habitat for Humanity.
Based on the ideas that housing is a human right and that all of us working together in community can contribute what we are able to each other, our week will involve hands-on construction at a Habitat for Humanity build site. You may find yourself installing siding, painting, putting up drywall, or doing other build work. No construction experience or knowledge required; training and equipment will be provided. After the build day is finished, you can expect evenings filled with group dinners, social events, and local sightseeing.
Participants will be able to help decide the build site that is selected for the trip. Some of the options include Fort Lauderdale, FL; Mandville, LA; Taos, NM; Amarillo, TX; and Tacoma, WA.
There will be pre-experience activities planned for the group where you will be able to help plan the freetime activities, make some of the decisions about the trip, and better meet and connect with everyone in the group. You can feel confident you are going on a trip with friends, even if you are signing up solo.
Cost will be $1000 to $1500 depending on the chosen location. When signing up, each participant will make a deposit of $250 to hold their place. The balance will be due in November. Discounted deposits will be available to people with high levels of financial aid. Additional financial aid for the full balance may be available later. Group fundraising and scholarship opportunities may be available.
The program is limited to 20 students due to the nature of the trip. Registration is on a first come first served basis. As the spots are limited, we encourage students to sign up early to secure their spot.
Mission
Jumbo Spring Break (JSB) is a program that offers the Tufts community a meaningful and exciting way to spend spring break. JSB is a joint initiative of the Dean of Students Office, TCU Senate, the Career Center, the Tisch College of Civic Life, and the Chaplaincy. JSB brings Tufts students together for a memorable college experience that will live on in your personal Tufts highlight reel, will make you feel good about the contributions that you made, and can be a formative life experience that informs your future career and civic engagement plans.
