Policies on Solicitation, Vending, and Distributions
The University regulates all commercial activity and solicitation on campus conducted by student organizations and non-university parties/vendors. These activities include the distribution of products and promotional materials, leafleting, sales and solicitation for any purpose, or fundraising. The Office for Campus Life offers tabling/vending opportunities at the Mayer Campus Center for student organizations, campus departments and approved non-university parties/vendors. Student organizations should make reservations through the Reserve Tufts platform and complete a JumboLife Event Registration form for the reservation to be approved. Non-university parties/vendors should apply for approval and dates with the Office for Campus Life using the Outside Vendor Application.
Tabling/Vending Guidelines
- Tables may not be moved from their designated location, including to outdoor locations.
- Tables must be staffed at all times. Student organization tabling must be represented and staffed by a current Tufts student. Outside representation at a student organization table is limited to one additional person. Student organizations must be representing topics specific to their student organization mission when tabling.
- Use of other spaces surrounding the table should be requested separately and will be approved based on space.
- Tabling at the Mayer Campus Center is only permitted at designated tabling spaces in the lobby or on upper/lower patio. Tabling in a meeting room or in another common space is prohibited.
- Taping posters to walls or windows is prohibited. Request use of an easel if you have signs or posters to hang.
- Student organizations reserving tables for non-university partners must have at least one student organization representative present throughout the entire tabling event and the non-university partner must in some way connect to the goals and mission of the student organization.
- Mayer Campus Center tabling and patio reservation requests must be submitted at least 3 days in advance. Student organization events on the patios must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance as required by student organization event policies. Due to the nature of tabling/patio reservations we may approve with less than 3 weeks' notice, but same day reservations will not be approved.
- There is a fee for non-university parties vending/tabling, including off campus vendors scheduled by student organizations.
- Off-campus parties/vendors proposing religious or philosophical tabling requests are generally not approved as part of our tabling/vending program. Please refer to Tufts Chaplaincy guidelines.
- All tabling representatives should stay behind their tables and should not actively approach other visitors, guests or students. Those interested approach tables on their own and at that point representatives may engage.
- The Office for Campus Life has the right to cancel any tabling reservation prior to or during the reservation due to a violation of any guidelines or if the tabling activity is not representative of the original request.
